Imaging Empire (220/415/425)

An oil painting by Roderick MacKenzie completed in 1907 titled The State Entry at the Dehli Durbar, 1903— an image representing the accession of Edward VII as Emperor of India and celebrating the imperial pageantry of the British Raj. Such spectacles– and visual images commemorating them– are a key element in maintaining social power.
