Surviving Progress (HUM415)

Here’s a documentary that you might find interesting. It questions the ideology of Progress, placing a heavy emphasis on the basic contradiction of contemporary global society: the quest for unending and expanding economic “growth” in a finite natural world. While I think there are a few comfortable cliches and familiar omissions here (even as some of the interviewees lament unhinged consumption none of them seems willing to use the “c-word”) Surviving Progress is an intelligent and often visually compelling film. It’s also streaming on Nflix.
