Wikileaks has been thrown off of a Swiss server as of today. The Library of Congress has banned wikileaks to its staff and visitors. State Department employees have been warned against accessing wikileaks at home. The Electronic Frontiers Foundation calls this situation “the first serious infowar” one that includes government pressure on private companies to break ties with wikileaks in addition to several sustained DOS attacks.
WikiLeaks said the malicious traffic was coming in at 10 gigabits per second on Tuesday, which would make it a relatively large effort. According to a study by Internet security company Arbor Networks, the average denial of service attack over the past year was 349 megabits per second, 28 times slower than the stream Wikileaks reported.
